ER CT of the head is freely and frequently done and we have no specific protocol. It is left to the discretion of the ER physician seeing the patient. If it is a more specialized study, such as temporal bone, then it needs to be approved by the radiologist. Head CT is now considered a basic screening exam for the ER.
