This
patient has advanced ulcerative colitis with associated dysplasia
and early carcinoma. This is manifested by mild narrowing of the lumen
(the carcinoma) and irregular nodularity of the mucosa (the dysplasia)
seen here on this air contrast barium enema. Carcinoma is seen more
commonly in patients who have had extensive UC for over 10 years;
these tend to be high grade, mucin producing, infiltrating, and multifocal. |
